Favorite Thing of the Week ~ My Daisy Girl

I'm sure it comes to no surprise to anyone who's read my blog more than once that Daisy is my favorite thing of the week! I am so in love with this adorable little puppy who endears herself to us more and more every day. Whether she's snuggled up next to me on the couch, sitting on my feet while I'm doing the dishes, or licking her reflection in our full~length mirror, I find that she is further wiggling her way into my heart every moment I spend with her. Here are a few pictures...

Daisy is Home and Happy!

Here's a little video of Daisy on her first day home! She and Nate are playing with the laser pointer ~ one of her favorite games! {On a side note, I must tell you that Nate is not allowed out of the house with socks and sandals. It's an at~home~only fashion for sure!}

Preparing for Life with Puppy

In eleven short days, Nate and I will be making the two hour drive up to the breeder’s to pick up Daisy. I can hardly believe that after all this waiting {it’s been almost seven months since I started my puppy search}, we are finally bringing our pup home! I am excited and anxious, nervous and giddy. Maybe adopting a puppy doesn’t seem like such a big deal to most people, but it is huge for me. I have always always been a cat person, so just the idea of a dog seems almost foreign to me. And I have never even been around a puppy for much more than a few minutes, so having one to take care of 24~7 could prove to be a bit of a challenge!

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been working on getting ready for our Daisy girl ~ we have her kennel, a bed, multiple leashes and collars, treats, a brush, shampoo, blankets, and more toys than she could ever possibly play with. We still need to pick up a few things ~ a travel carrier, a second baby gate so we can keep her confined to the living room, and a stake for her tie~out in the backyard, but other than that, we are good to go! I’ve been practicing picking up my shoes, books, and other items that may be appealing as puppy chew toys. I’ve researched pet insurance. I have read multiple books about training dogs in general and small dogs specifically, and am almost 100% sure of the potty training methods we are going to practice. In short, we are ready for our new Life with Puppy!

I am ready to snuggle her and play with her, walk her and train her. I am ready to love her and be loved by her. And after hearing all the fabulous things dog lovers keep saying about puppy breath, I am even ready to enjoy that! How could I not be? Look at that adorable little face!

Favorite Thing of the Week ~ My Pup, Daisy {And a Request for Puppy Advice}

My favorite thing of the week is Daisy {who, by the way, is not named after Daisy de la Hoya; as much as I love her body, I would never name a puppy after her!}. The breeder sent me a few new pictures last night, and I am so excited to share them. I love that she’s finally starting to look like a puppy, not a guinea pig! Six weeks, two days, and counting before she comes home!

After posting Daisy’s first pictures last week, I received several comments asking what kind of dog she is. She is a Papillon ~ you can read more about the breed, my decision to get one, and my search for a breeder here. Here is a picture of what she’ll look like when she comes home.

Daisy will be my first dog and I’m starting to get a little nervous. My concern is that I will baby her too much and not focus enough on disciplining and training her. Obviously I want her to be a well~behaved and happy dog, but I’m fearful that if I treat her the way my gut instincts tell me to treat an adorable little puppy, she will end up being a spoiled brat. I have done lots of reading and watched many episodes of “The Dog Whisperer,” but would love any advice any bloggy friends have on bringing puppies into the home and turning them into wonderful dogs.

The Great Puppy Search of ‘08~’09 ~ Mama is Expecting!

I know everyone probably thinks I’m really silly for blogging so much about a puppy that hasn’t even been born yet, but I can’t help it! I. AM. EXCITED!!! I’ve wanted a puppy for so long now, and things are finally coming together for that to happen ~ I’ve decided on the breed I want, we’re moving to a new place that will allow pups, and the puppy (who I have pre~named “Daisy”) is on her way! I spoke to the breeder today, and the female she just bred is starting to show. Even more exciting is the fact that my dear boyfriend is also starting to join in on the puppy anticipation ~ although I know he would never admit it, I think he’s looking forward to Daisy joining our little household. If all goes as planned, we should be able to bring our girl home sometime in June.

Here are a few pictures of Papillon pups around eight weeks old ~ this could be what Daisy will look like when we get her!
